Alan John Congdon,
59, died suddenly but peacefully on October 3rd
2001, after a long and brave fight against
cancer.
He was born
in Dorchester, Dorset, December 30th, 1941 to
Joyce and Leslie.
A well known
and respected business man in the area, Alan was
also known for his generosity and sense of
humour.
A farrier
and proprietor of Hillview Riding Stables,
Crewkerne, Alan and Patricia started the
stables, initially in Misterton in the 60's then
moved to Crewkerne in the 80's to provide better
facilities.
Visitors to
the stables would be assured of a good welcome
from Alan and if they had the time, a chat.
Alan was
also staunch supporter of good causes, over the
years having raised several thousands of pounds
for local charities either through his time with
Crewkerne Carnival or through organised events
at the stables. His most recent contribution
raising over £2000 for the oncology unit at
Yeovil District hospital where Alan was
receiving treatment & support from the excellent
& caring staff there.
Those that
knew Alan will always smile whenever they think
back to all he accomplished personally and all
that he did for others as well as the family --
every deed by Alan was given with such
incredible kindness.
We have lost
a great man; Alan will always be remembered in
our hearts.
